Below is an optional sample daily schedule to help you structure your school day.

If your student is behind in a course, consider adding a few extra minutes to that subject block. In general, we recommend students spend 45 minutes to 1 hour per subject area, but every student works at a different pace. Some subjects may require more time, while others may take less. Use this schedule as a flexible guide to help you plan your day.

Helpful Tips for a Successful School Day

1. Keep flexibility — but maintain structure.
One of the greatest benefits of homeschooling is flexibility. However, having a consistent daily schedule helps prevent wasted time and keeps your student on track.

2. Give your student some choice.
Allow your student to choose the order in which they complete their subjects each day. This builds independence and ownership. Just be clear that all assigned subjects must be completed each day.

3. Vary the order.
Subjects do not have to be completed in the same order daily. For example, math does not always need to be first.

4. Create a focused workspace.
Choose a quiet area away from distractions like TV or busy household traffic. At the same time, make sure it’s a space where you can easily check in to ensure your student is staying on task and not distracted by social media, gaming, etc.

5. Use breaks wisely.
Encourage your student to use 15-minute breaks to stretch, get fresh air, grab a snack, or move around. Physical movement and brain breaks help improve focus.

6. Post the schedule.
Many families find it helpful to display the daily schedule near the student’s workspace so they know what to expect next.

7. Pace the year intentionally.
Aim to complete about half of the required tests and projects (listed on the course pages in Moodle) by the end of the first semester. This helps maintain steady progress throughout the year.

8. Use early dismissal as motivation.
Following this schedule, your student could finish by 1:30 PM (or 2:00 PM with an elective). This can be a great incentive — especially since many traditional schools dismiss at 3:00 PM or later.

This schedule is simply a guide — adjust it as needed to best support your student’s success and your family’s rhythm.
